THE EVOLUTION OF THE KAFTAN
Founder and Creative Director, Camilla Franks, shares her journey of evolving the now globally recognised design, her iconic CAMILLA kaftan.
“The first piece I ever created was a kaftan. I’d started making them during my theatre days: I love the drama, and the flow of the silk is the perfect canvas for print – the definition of a ‘wearable artwork’.
“Nothing is quite as empowering as a kaftan. They are the embodiment of freedom in form, self-expression, joy and play. With kaftans, there are no sizes, genders or barriers. They represent diversity, the art of wearing print, colour, and being bold.
“We’ve pushed so many boundaries over the years – experimented with different silhouettes, fabrics and finishes. From a round neck, a one shoulder to a tunic style kaftan. Embellishments, feathers, silk, jersey, cotton, crystals – now even denim. We’ve done it all!
“Our CAMILLA first-born has been synonymous with multi wear from the beginning. I truly believe that everyone needs a kaftan in their wardrobe. It’s the little black dress of the bohemians, after all."
