Twice a year, Camilla Franks heads off on a new global adventure to seek out inspiration for her next limited edition collection. Her restless feet recently found her in Portugal, where she fell under the spell of tiled corridors, gilded palaces, majestic museums and hidden markets. She learned Lisbon lullabies and danced with Porto pilgrims. She followed in folk art footsteps, drinking in every detail, from waterfront splendour to the art of the Azelujo.
Azelujo tiles have become a signature calling card of Portuguese creativity and inspired many of the prints in the latest collection Rua Do Universo. Each Azelujo tile is an artwork in its own right, a standalone story. When pieced together, the tiles form a greater narrative. Just like the images that make up a motion picture, and just like the pieces in this collection.
Rua Do Universo means Universe Street in Portuguese. It is an ode to the universal language of fashion: how it sparks self-expression, celebrates individuality and exploration. How it transcends time and borders.
Photographed in Los Angeles, this collection draws inspiration from every corner of Portugal, from palaces and markets, tiles, textiles and architecture.
That’s the beauty of Rua Do Universo: one turn can take you from the autoestradas to the interstate: one step from Sunset Boulevard to Avenide de Liberdade. One moment, you're in the Hollywood Hills sipping cocktails by the pool with film royalty, the next, you're deep in the heart of the Algarve with the salty tang of the ocean on your lips.
What could happen next? Take a walk down the road and find out.
